Surgery, Ficarra (SIU): "Robotic sustainability is a key topic in urology."

At the national congress, 'it's the new frontier of minimally invasive procedures for many pathologies'
"One of the most important topics discussed during the 98th Congress of the Italian Society of Urology is undoubtedly the sustainability of robotic surgery." This is how Vincenzo Ficarra, national councilor of the Italian Society of Urology, outlined the latest developments in robotic surgery, one of the most debated topics among specialists at the national event underway in Sorrento.
"Today, robotic surgery represents the new frontier of minimally invasive surgery and can be used to treat numerous urological conditions," explains Ficarra. "One of the drawbacks may be its cost, theoretically higher than open surgery, but there is certainly evidence that robotic surgery can reduce hospital stays, reduce indirect costs, and ultimately become sustainable for our healthcare system. At the same time," he adds, "we believe it is unfair to forgo such a precise, minimally invasive surgery as robotic surgery. The challenge for the future," he concludes, "is to combine the efficiency and effectiveness of robotic surgery with its sustainability within our healthcare system."
